#GetCreative: Put pen to paper. #writing

This one’s for you if you: Have something to say Are fairly literate Have writing instruments (pens and paper are fine) Have an imagination One of the quickest ways to get in touch with your creative force is to write. Good grammar and a deft use of language are great but not necessary. This exercise is not as concerned about your reader as it is about using and strengthening your creative force. How to do it: Pick the best time of day for you to spend 20 minutes writing. Mornings are preferable for this exercise, particularly right after you wake up, as the creative juices are the most “loose” when you’ve come out of your dream state.  If mornings can’t work, however, then right before bed is the next preferable time. Get your writing instruments together, and then at the allotted time – get cracking! 20 minutes is recommended. Do this on a regular basis – once a day is best. The more you use your creative force, the stronger it’ll be. After some practice you’ll find that you will make connections with different ideas and aspects of your life readily. The act of writing, for the sake of writing, makes it easier to create in a variety of ways. Keep in mind Steve Jobs’ quote about creativity. Also, you might find that you like what you write, and you want to share it! Or you’ll find that you like the act of writing and want to get better at it.  Both these results lend itself very well to sharing and honing your craft. There’s tons of ways to go about...

I’m in first place. #happybirthday

I’m 32 today! At this time of year I always reflect on life lessons earned and applied and I often write them down. This year I’ve decided to share 32 of them.* Indulge me, and learn something while you’re at it. 1. I love my now because, at least, I’m in it. All there is is the current state, the now. It may or may not be pleasant, but no matter, because, I AM HERE. 2. Planning is worthwhile. Planning aligns my intention for accomplishing a goal and whatever course of action is needed. Planning tells the Universe, that, yes, I am so serious and clear that my intention will be reality. Even if my plan doesn’t come together the way I wanted, my intention will be my reality as long as I trust the Universe to support my greatest good. 3. Regular engagement of my creative energy raises the vibrational energy of my life. More Creativity is the path to More Joy. (I created the More Creativity, More Joy! Program for a reason!) 4. Peace is many things, including the ability to recognize when conflict is not worth my energy, and acting upon that recognition. 5. “The meaning of life is to find your gift. The purpose of life is to give it away.” My lesson learned, but the phrasing is courtesy of an episode of Black Ink Crew. 6. Sleep is the best investment of time, ever. Regular investment of 8 hours to my sleeping life benefits my waking life tremendously! 7. Regular meditation breeds clarity of thought and receptiveness to the messages the Universe is trying to...
#GetCreative: Radically change your surroundings.

#GetCreative: Radically change your surroundings.

Need to get those creative juices flowing? Free up your creative energy instantly by radically changing your surroundings. Examples: If you’re at your desk or in front of the computer, go out and take a walk. Preferably, that walk should be in an environment you enjoy and helps you focus. If you’re outside, get up and walk in a direction you’ve never tried before. If you have the time and ability, modify your existing workspace by changing the layout or adding a distinctive piece. Your circumstances and environment play a part in how you think and feel! Make a radical change in what you see, smell and hear and (if you pay attention) your thoughts and feelings will shift. Creativity is just connecting things.

Creativity is just connecting things.

Ever since starting the More Creativity More Joy! program, I’ve been a bit obsessed with different views on creativity. This is a great perspective from Steve Jobs, from an interview in a 1995 Wired Magazine. He hits on a very important idea: that your ability to create depends on your perspective.  If you’re feeling not-so-creative, remember this quote. If you can connect-the-dots, you can...
